Oakville Speed Skating Club 2018 Sport Recognition Award Recipients:

Coach: Thomas Hinton

Coach Thomas began Coaching with our Club several years ago as an Assistant Coach. He began helping out during his son, David’s practices.
Thomas now Coaches our Intermediate Skaters on Sunday afternoons and is one of our Adult Program Coaches. He also, will gladly and readily assist as needed for substitution if one of our other Coaches are not available. Thomas also attends Meets and provides valuable Race Coach input to Oakville Club Skaters.
Thomas does an exceptional job of insuring our members understand and demonstrate the fundamentals of speed skating and incorporating them in drills and races.
The Club is extremely appreciative of Thomas’s volunteer time and skill as a valued Coach of the Oakville Speed Skating Club

Athlete: Izabella Zakatsiolo

Izabella has been a member of the Oakville Speed Skating Club since the age of 7 and has been #1 in her age class every year since. Izabella holds two Ontario Records; one for the 800m distance as an 8 year old girl and 200m distance as a 9 year old girl.
Last season, in her first year of eligibility for the Ontario Provincial Racing Series, she competed as the only 11 year old in a group of 12-13 year old girls. Last season she also made her national debut at the Canada East Short Track Championship where she finished 4th overall and won a silver medal in the 1500m distance.
Izabella works hard at practices and during competitions. She is a role model for her fellow Club Members and is a pleasure to have a part of the Oakville Speed Skating Club

Athletes: Kai Abdool

Kai has been a member of the Oakville Speed Skating Cub since the age of 6.
He has consistently been ranked in the top 5 skaters in his age class since the age of 10. Last season Kai qualified for and competed at both the Ontario Winter Games, where he finished 5th overall and 4th in the 1500m distance; and Nationally at the Canada East Short Track Championships, where he finished 14th overall in this age class including an impressive 10th place finish in the 1500m distance.
Kai is a great teammate and forms a key part of the Club’s solid bedrock of fine Competitiors.

Volunteer: Cathy Moss

Cathy Moss has been a Volunteer for the Oakville Speed Skating Club for over 20 years.
Every year she assists with every aspect of our Christmas Poinsettia Fundraiser. She helps in the organizing, selling and even very generously has the Flowers picked up at her home
Cathy has also helped in the hospitality Room at Club Meets and during our Club Year End Awards and Banquet. She also will volunteer in other events if needed.
The Oakville Speed Skating Club is very fortunate to have such a Volunteer as Cathy, she is dedicated, kind and very reliable. Thank you Cathy for your years of Volunteering.
